With so much research and statistics about germs, it can be overwhelming keeping up with all the dangers we face. We need to remember to keep our focus on what is important and not on things meant to scare us.
Flu season is upon us and we need to know what the most likely way for us to get sick is. It is hard to be aware of your every touch and move when you’re in the middle of a busy work day. So we need to know what the most effective way of preventing the spread of the flu is. You might be looking for a magic hand sanitizer that will solve all your problems. Unfortunately, that solution does not exist. We need to take it back to the basics and to remember what our parents taught us.
So what is the easiest way of preventing the flu?
The secret magical tool is soap and two hands. Quite simply, wash your hands more often. Our hands work well when it comes to many things. One of those things is spreading germs and infections. Washing your hands for a good 20 seconds is the most effective way to disinfect your hands. If you don’t want to count to 20 while you’re washing your hands, just sing happy birthday to yourself twice. Hand sanitizers are great when you are not near a sink and some soap. Using hand sanitizer helps kill germs but it does not remove dirt and debris from your hands.
What else could I do?
Think about what you do with your hands when you sneeze. If you put your hands up and cover your mouth, then you are with the majority of us. That is not the right way of doing it if you actually want to help prevent the spread of germs. You might think that you’re helping because you don’t want to sneeze everywhere, and its true. Covering your mouth does help the germs from flying all around the room. What you don’t think about is all the germs you put on your hands and are now going to spread to other surfaces. Most likely surfaces that other people use with their hands also. For example, drinking fountains, telephones, keyboards, desks, pens, etc.
So what what are you supposed to do? Cover your mouth? Not cover your mouth? Hold it?
The answer is definitely not to hold it, and you also want to cover your mouth. So what do you use to cover your mouth? Use the sleeve of your shirt. This helps prevent germs from flying all around the room and your hands wont be covered in germs either. Making the spreading of germs reduced drastically. Watch the video below to see what we mean by using your sleeve to cover up your sneeze.
